Make National Indoor Comfort Week "special" by hosting "special events." Here are some ideas to help you brainstorm -- things you can do with your member contractors or other organizations. Don't forget to send out press releases for public events (both before and after); read more about press coverage here.
Advertising Supplement
National Indoor Comfort Week is a great excuse for local newspapers to create advertising supplements (and they like to do it because it's money for them!). Work with your members and a local paper to create a special pull-out section. Use the sample press releases we created as articles. Several of ACCA's local chapters have had great success with these supplements, including the National Capital Chapter.
Conduct workshops for consumers
You might be able to partner with a local vo-tech school or adult learning center on this. Pick topics that are of interest to homeowners, like "What's That Sound?" (maintenance you can do yourself, and maintenance you need a pro for) or "What's That Smell?" (mold prevention). With the high cost of fuel, energy efficiency tips are also a great topic.
School Visits
Talk to guidance counselors and administrators in local schools about possible school programs. You can have some of your members talk about "What I Do for a Living" (don't forget to bring small, fun giveaways) or offer to host a field trip.
Student Essay Contest
Partner with a school (or a local newspaper) to sponsor a student essay contest. Possible topics include "What Life Would Be Like Without Air Conditioning" or similar ideas.
Technician Appreciation
Don't forget that National Indoor Comfort Week is also a time to say thank-you to our technicians. Work with your members to come up with a special way to say "thanks." Perhaps a joint barbecue or party, or special gift your members can send to their technicians' homes as a token of appreciation.
Now, it's your turn: What special ideas or events can you come up with to make National Indoor Comfort Week something special? Remember to let us know what you have planned by emailing kimya.cajchun@acca.org.
